Get ready for four unforgettable days celebrating queer film, music, art, makers, and community as aGLIFF presents The Big Queer Weekend. This citywide celebration brings together acclaimed independent films, visiting filmmakers and special guests, live music, local queer artists, parties, conversations, and plenty of opportunities to connect with Austin’s LGBTQ+ creative community.
The weekend kicks off Thursday at Galaxy Theatres Austin with a red-carpet Opening Night featuring The Best Little Tiny Park in Texas, a charming Austin-made short from filmmaker Margaret Barry, followed by aGLIFF’s The Big Queer Weekend brings together four unforgettable days of queer film, music, art, makers, and community across Austin, featuring acclaimed indie films, visiting filmmakers, live conversations, parties, performances, and more.
Opening Night at Galaxy Theatres Austin pairs the locally produced short The Best Little Tiny Park in Texas with D’Arcy Drollinger’s outrageous high-camp comedy Lady Champagne, followed by the Official Opening Night Party at Rain on 4th with filmmakers, special guests, music, and signature Deep Eddy Vodka cocktails. Friday continues with The Dads, an intimate portrait of fathers supporting their transgender and gender-expansive children, and Give Me the Ball!, celebrating tennis legend and equality trailblazer Billie Jean King.
Saturday’s Documentary Centerpiece, Out Laws, follows activists confronting the colonial legacy of LGBTQ+ criminalization around the world, followed by a live filmmaker conversation. That night, Pride in Local Music takes over Drinks Backyard for a free celebration of queer musicians, drag, a DJ and Bboy Wicket, alongside a Queer Artist & Artisan Marketplace featuring 12+ local LGBTQ+ creatives.
Sunday begins with The Big Queer Creatives Brunch on the Hotel Indigo pool deck—breakfast tacos, networking, cocktails, and a $10 ticket that includes an afternoon pool pass! The weekend wraps at Galaxy Theatres with the Queer Black Voices presentation of Assembly, followed by Closing Night featuring local short Aiden & Dean Don’t Fall in Love and the award-winning documentary WICKET, with filmmakers and special guests in attendance.
