Programs

In this exciting time of expansion, aGLIFF will be concentrating on the development and growth of five programs.  These programs will carry us forward into our 22nd festival and beyond by promoting education as well continuing our traditional entertainment focus.

Annual Film Festival

Of course we’re continuing our cornerstone event! By taking the feedback from our members and volunteers, we will be tailoring the festival to fit the growth and needs of the Austin LGBTQI community and its allies.

This year the festival is moving to the Alamo South Lamar which offers more screens, more parking, and more opportunities to socialize in-between screenings of the best in LGBTQI films from around the world.

Monthly Screening Series

What fun is it to only watch the best in LGBTQI film once a year? Well, yes, lots of fun, but even better would be getting together with other fans of the rainbow screen to see the “best of the past fest,” and the best of what’s new!

Since aGLIFF21, we’ve hosted an advanced preview of the award-winning MILK, a special presentation of CHANNELING, and a collaborative effort with the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum to present THROUGH THICK AND THIN.

Queer Youth Media Project

Working directly with Out Youth, aGLIFF will bring filmmaking to LGBTQI-identified youth through this reprisal of our very first educational program.  Lasting eight weeks, students will be immersed in the entire filmmaking process, from pre-production through distribution.

The youth, split into both a documentary and narrative group, will have their own screening and Q&A session at aGLIFF22 so we can hear about their experiences and see their work on the big screen!

My Queer Movie

Formerly “My Gay Movie,” we have rebranded our amateur filmmaker competition to reflect the diversity of the LGBTQI community.  A great way for filmmakers new to the scene to get their feet wet, MY QUEER MOVIE offers these up-and-coming artists the chance to have their films projected on the big screen.

The best of these submissions will be shown in special screenings at aGLIFF22 and viewers will pick the winners who will receive cash prizes.

aGLIFF Volunteer Groups

aGLIFF21 brought together the best of our volunteers.  After the festival was over, they asked for a way to stay involved so we created three working groups.  These volunteer-led groups assist staff in the areas of Fundraising, Programming, and Office Support.

In this first year, the Working Groups have re-envisioned the film screening and selection process, developed a new fundraising model, and begun the process of documenting aGLIFF’s history.
